A/R Follow-Up & Recovery
Track aging claims and follow up persistently until every collectible dollar is recovered.
How AccMed RCM Handles A/R Follow-Up & Recovery
Claims do not pay themselves. Once a claim passes 30, 60, then 90 days unpaid, the odds of collecting it fall with every week it sits untouched, and in most practices those aging claims are exactly the ones nobody has time to work. AccMed RCM takes ownership of your accounts receivable: every aging claim is reviewed, its status confirmed with the payer, and the action needed to move it to payment is taken and documented.
We work your A/R by aging bucket and dollar value, oldest collectible claims first, so effort goes where recovery is still possible. You receive regular aging reports that show what is outstanding, what is being done about it, and what has been recovered, with no black box.
What Our A/R Follow-Up & Recovery Cover
A/R aging analysis
Your receivables are reviewed by payer, age, and balance so the recovery plan starts from accurate data.
Claim status follow-up
Unpaid claims are checked with payers by portal and phone until each one has a clear status and next step.
Underpayment identification
Payments are compared against expected reimbursement so partial payments and incorrect allowances are challenged.
Stalled claim resolution
Claims stuck in review, pending documentation, or payer processing are pushed forward with the information the payer needs.
Patient balance follow-up
Patient responsibility amounts move to statements and courteous follow-up once payer payment is final.
Write-off review
Balances proposed for write-off are checked first, so collectible money is not written off by default.
Aging and recovery reporting
Regular reports show your aging by bucket, actions taken, and amounts recovered during the period.
Why Practices Choose This Service
Older claims actually get worked
Aging receivables receive systematic attention instead of being left until they are uncollectible.
Fewer silent losses
Underpayments, stalled claims, and premature write-offs are caught and corrected.
A healthier aging profile
Consistent follow-up shifts your balances out of the 90+ day buckets and into paid claims.
Full visibility
Aging reports show the status of your receivables at any time, claim by claim where it matters.
Your staff stay on patients
Hours of payer hold time and portal checking move off your team’s plate entirely.
Old A/R Recovery: How We Work a Backlog
Claims older than 90 days are the hardest to collect, and every week they sit the odds drop further. Many are still recoverable if someone works them in the right order before timely filing and appeal windows close.
Sort
Every open claim is grouped by payer, age, dollar value and deadline.
Triage
Claims close to a filing or appeal limit are worked first.
Resolve
Status calls, corrected claims, appeals and records requests.
Report
Weekly progress on dollars recovered and claims closed.
When A/R Recovery Makes Sense
After a biller leaves
Claims stop being followed up when one person leaves the practice.

A/R Follow-Up & Recovery Questions, Answered
How old is too old for a claim to be recovered?
It depends on the payer’s timely filing and appeal limits, which vary from months to over a year. We review your aging against each payer’s rules and prioritize claims that are still recoverable before their windows close.
What does A/R follow-up actually involve?
For every unpaid claim we confirm its status with the payer, identify what is blocking payment, supply missing information or corrections, and re-check until it pays or reaches a final, documented outcome.
Can you take over A/R from our previous biller?
Yes. A/R recovery is a common starting point when practices switch billing partners. We begin with an aging review of what the previous biller left outstanding and build the recovery plan from there.
How do we see progress?
You receive regular A/R aging and recovery reports showing balances by age bucket, actions taken during the period, and amounts collected, so progress is measurable rather than anecdotal.
Can you work only our old A/R and not new claims?
Yes. Many practices hire us for a one-time A/R cleanup project, then decide whether to move ongoing billing to us.
What A/R can still be collected?
Claims within the payer’s timely filing, corrected-claim or appeal limits can often still be paid. Claims past those limits usually cannot, which is why we triage by deadline first.
How do you price A/R recovery?
A/R recovery is usually priced as a percentage of what we collect from the backlog. We quote after reviewing your aging report.
